Susanville  Adventist  Christian  School is a Bible-based community school with the mission of providing

Christ-centered     Character building      Quality education

for elementary students.

Where learning is
Relevant      Reflective      Relational

Christ Centered
Becoming like Jesus is the most important characteristic that is taught and modeled at SACS. Jesus came to serve, not be served. Therefore, SACS is involved in outreach and encouragement here is Susanville and beyond. All course work is prepared with awe filled awareness that a loving God has created the planet and its inhabitants for the joy of discovery, questioning, and learning. The unselfish love of God to give His only Son, and the understanding care of Jesus to send His holy Spirit to guide and teach us in understanding the Bible and all things necessary for eternal life are the core truths for spiritual education as SACS.

Character Building
Teaching and modeling positive character traits is an intentional focus for students of SACS. Developing a positive caring character is one of life's greatest and most powerful skills. The learning environment thrives when life skills are lived out in all our relationships.

Quality Education
Quality Education happens when we work together to help each individual grow spiritually, physically, socially, and academically. Differentiating education, to instruct in ways that are meaningful and effective to the individuals of the class, sets up students for success. Mentoring and peer coaching create social and leadership skills. Technology use enhances  learning -- each student at SACS has a computer at their desk. While t he academics improvements are shown in the annual standardized testing, the impact of all these aspects of learning will be seen in daily life and eternity.

Admission
Susanville Adventist Christian School is looking to enroll students who get along well with their peers and respect others. Students with high academic achievement are welcome as well as students who need more academic strengthening. The important admissions quality is that the applying student understands his or her responsibility to become a positive participant in the SACS Christ-centered learning community. SACS recommends that students entering the first grade are between the ages of 6 and 8. When a student is capable of self control and demonstrates age appropriate emotional maturity the student is more likely to succeed.

Application Procedure
1. Complete Application Packet. Once a student has been accepted to enroll the enrollment packet will be sent.

Enrollment Process
1. Complete and submit registration forms and payments by August 15th.
2. Help your teacher understand your student's strengths and learning styles
3. Complete other forms such as Field Trip Permission, Computer Use Agreement...

Medical Information Required
A medical history form must be completed by a physician for all new students, and students entering grades one, four, and seven.  These students also need to submit an up-dated immunization record along with a TB clearance.

Accident & Medical Information
All accidents, regardless of how slight the injury or damage, must be immediately reported to the teacher. SACS insurance covers all students for injury occurring while the policy is in force. This covers the student for the hours and days when school is in session and while attending school-sponsored and supervised activities.

No medication (including aspirin or other over the counter drugs) of any kind may be administered at school without the parent's written consent specific to the dosage. Medication approval may not be given over the phone. All medications must be in the teacher's possession. No student may carry medications or give medications to other students while at school.

Any illegal use or distribution of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco will result in immediate suspension with the potential consequence of expulsion. Weapons (play or otherwise), pocket knives, and such are not to be  brought to school.

Tuition & Registration
Tuition and annual registration payments are specified in the registration material

Tuition is paid over a 10 month period, beginning in August and continuing through May. Payment is due by the 5th of each month. Families who wish to take advantage of a full payment discount may make their payment by the 5th of September to receive a 10% discount. Families may also arrange to make 12 monthly payments by special request.

The registration payment is due by August 15th. The annual non-refundable registration payment covers the expense of book rental, insurance, library improvements and testing for all students.

Financial Assistance
If a student will need financial assistance in order to attend, the family needs to make this known upon application. This will allow appropriate arrangements to be made before school starts.

School Supplies
Each year a list of student supplies will be made available with registration information.

Diplomas and Transcripts
It is the Nevada-Utah Conference department of Education policy that no transcript of grades will be issued for any student whose account is not paid in full. No student will be granted a diploma until he/she has completed every subject and is clear of all financial obligations to the school incurred during his/her enrollment. SACS can not enroll a student who has an outstanding balance at a previous school.

School Times & Calendar

School Hours
School begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to noon on Friday.  Unless other arrangements are made, students are to not arrive more than 15 minutes before school begins, and all students need to leave school within 15 minutes after dismissal so students are properly supervised and after-school tutoring and parent meetings can start on time.

Excused Absence
Please pre-arrange when possible so we can work together to keep students up- to-date. However, when and unexpected need arises, please phone the school prior to 8:00 a.m. to inform the teacher. Please provide a note of explanation for any mid-day absences. It is the student's responsibility to complete any school work missed during their absence - typically one make-up day for each missed day.

School Principles

Character and Attitude
Students (and staff) at Susanville Adventist Christian School are expected to be respectful, responsible, and showing the Fruit of the Spirit - and therefore fun to be around. These life principles are the foundation for building positive relationships and establishing and excellent learning environment.
If a student shows that he/she is not willing to be a part of a supportive and emotionally safe learning environment, other arrangements will need to be made, and may include calling parents for immediate pick-up or time with their student to help them through their difficult moment.
Concerns should be addressed and communicated properly and with respect. Issues need to b e worked out and plans created to meet the needs of each situation. Please follow the procedures Jesus gave in Matthew - share concerns with the one you have concerns about, taking time to listen to each other's message. If that does not resolve them, get mutually agreed upon helper. If that does not work, then take it to the group. This plan keeps us from building up negative feelings and if done promptly (following  the ideas of not letting the sun go down on your anger) and properly, we will see harmony that brings glory to God and provides good examples to children.

Dress Guidelines
Because our students are professional learners, we expect them to dress for success at school. Students are expected to be clean, neat, and modest in their apparel. Specific clothing guidelines include, in good repair:
Solid or striped-- polo, collared-button up shirts, or knit sweaters/turtlenecks
loose, fitted pants, knee length shorts or dresses or Capri's
Appropriate indoor and outdoor play shoes with good arch support for running
Hats and hoods will be removed while inside
In accordance to age appropriateness, students are discouraged from make up, finger nail polish, or hair dye.
Jewelry in sot a part of school attire during school hours or at any school unctions, field trips, or activities on or off campus.

Electronics & Cell Phones
All electronic listening devices, phones, games and such are not permitted for use at school or field trips. These are not to come out at school without specific permission. If parents or students need to contact each other during school hours, they may use the school phone. Students may bring a camera to school if it is only being used for an approved learning project and the student has the parent's and teacher's permission.

Gum, Food, & Toys
Gum at school is not allowed. Please provide healthy balanced meals to help create the best physical and mental growth possible. In order to assure the safe keeping of toys, and avoid distractions, please do not allow your child to bring his or her toys to school. Please check with the teacher if a student needs to bring a toy to school to use in a learning demonstration.

Discipline
Self discipline, restitution, and self control are the goals. This take maturity. This takes encouragement, prayer, and constant submission to God. We are here to help each other. Students soon discover that with hard work and self-control comes more freedoms and privileges but that the opposite is also true. SACS students apply themselves in growth in all areas of their lives, receiving praise, mercy, and restrictions as needed. Students are given opportunities to redo, fix, and solve, while the staff works to guide, direct, and encourage students to follow what they know is most honoring to God and their folks.

Meals
SACS promotes a healthy vegetarian diet and life style. Therefore, our group food is vegetarian (includes dairy and eggs). It is our plan that students not bring sodas, candy and other highly sugared foods for their lunches or snacks. Students are permitted to eat their healthy breakfast at school if they do so before school begins, and if needed, a healthy snack at break (see list below). A kitchen is available for students to heat their lunch meal. Please let us know if your student has special dietary needs or allergies.

Healthier Snack Suggestions
Fresh fruit
Veggies
Crackers
Nuts
Dried fruit
Graham crackers & peanut butter
Pretzels

Harassment
Harassment is a violation of state and federal law. It can take the form of verbal or physical threatening of a racial or sexual nature. Such behavior will not be tolerated at SACS. Examples of harassment include, but are not limited to, vulgar or obscene comments and/or jokes, unwelcome hugging or touching, referring to someone in demeaning terms, or starting or spreading demeaning rumors about the life of another individual. Be wholesome. Be nice. Treat others better than our self.
Report any bullying to your teacher immediately.  SACS need to be a safe place. Always tell your folks anything that is bugging your, or any ways your are treated that you are not sure if they are appropriate. Your folks and teachers are here for you - please let them know what is happening so they can take care of you. Misuse of kids goes down the more kids talk. Talking about safety, your own and others' is not tattling - it is smart. Thank your for talking about safety.

Parent Involvement
Thank you for helping create a focused learning environment. As part of the learning team, parents are always more than welcome. As a courtesy, please make arrangements ahead of time. During field trips parents may be asked to assist as a driver or chaperon. SACS encourages participation in fund raisers through the Home and School activities. Everyone loves a volunteer. Vera Wooten is the Home and School Coordinator. Her contact number is 253-1108. Thank you.

Parent Meetings are offered periodically for parent net-working, encouragement, learning, and to celebrate parents.

Throughout the year parents, students, and staff get together to make sure we are all on the same age - learning and growing as we should. We all need encouragement and people to hold us responsible to do our best. These conferences include evaluations, displays of work, reports on progress, and student responses and goals.

When parents make sure their student is on time, provide love and peace and structure at home, your are setting up your student for success. Thank you for your hard work on behalf of your students. Parenting work is tough and rewarding. We will pray for you and work with you for the eternal good of your student. Thank you for choosing SACS.

Other Important Information

SACS is one of nearly 8000 schools world wide operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The local Susanville SDA church is committed to the extended ministry of education that is provided for both its members and the community.

SACS teachers are credentialed, educational, professionals who are active members of the Susanville Seventh-day Adventist Church. They are employees of the Department of Education of the Nevada-Utah Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

SACS is accredited by the Accrediting Association of Adventist Schools, Colleges and Universities, under the auspices of the National Council for Private School Accreditation

Due to the low teacher/student ratio and supportive atmosphere, SACS practices a multi-graded learning environment where students are encouraged to progress to their ability. Standardized academic progress is evaluated through yearly testing, which along with daily work, collections of work, demonstrations, and conferencing, demonstrate student improvements and achievement.
