Mission

Susanville Adventist Christian School is a Bible-based community school with the mission of providing a Christ-centered, character building, quality education* for elementary students.

Philosophy

Christ Centered
              Becoming like Jesus is the most important characteristic that is taught and modeled at SACS. Jesus came to serve, not be served. Therefore students participate in regular community service opportunities for others. When the teacher and students grow in their personal relationship with God then Jesus is known as the Master Teacher. Both teacher and student are learning from Him. 
            All course work is prepared with a delightful awareness that a loving God has created the planet and its inhabitants for the joy of discovery, questioning, and learning. The unselfish love of God to give His only Son, and the understanding care of Jesus to send His Holy Spirit to guide and teach us all things necessary for eternal life are the core truths for spiritual education at SACS.

Character Building
                Teaching and modeling positive character traits is an intentional focus for students at SACS. Here is a list of a few of the student-generated character building qualities that are important at SACS: honesty, integrity, thoughtfulness, trustworthiness, courtesy, kindness, obedience, cleanliness, caring, encouraging, inclusiveness, taking initiative, negotiating conflict and appreciating differences. Developing a positive, caring attitude and character is one of life’s greatest and most powerful skills. The learning environment thrives when these life skills are lived out in all our relationships at school.
Quality Education*
                Quality education* at SACS means much more than pursuing or achieving a high standard. Quality Education* is when both the teacher and student take responsibility for optimum learning. This is accomplished by the teacher
  1. genuinely caring about each student, supporting each student’s learning style, and creating an atmosphere of mutual trust
  2. preparing lessons that immerse the student in the learning process
  3. making sure that the student understands the usefulness of what is being learned
  4. allowing students choices to demonstrate their learning
  5. teaching students how to self evaluate
  6. expecting and showing students how to achieve mastery
The student’s responsibilities are to
  1. develop decision making skills
  2. self evaluate his/her learning process and choose areas for improvement
  3. learn how to communicate about learning through project demonstrations and oral presentation
  4. set personal goals for mastery
  5. get along well with others
                                                                                                                      
      Quality* education teaching methods often include thematic units that reveal the connection between science, literature, math, social studies, and the arts. Students are taught how to make a personal learning plan to fulfill their learning interests.

                Grading includes student input using the self evaluation process and conferencing with the teacher. What the student has learned is more important than the “grade.” Each student will learn to identify how he/she could improve and then make a plan to accomplish that improvement as learning continues.
